The Defenders are a loose group of superheroes, driven by their own agendas and frequently at odds with each other.  However, they pull together when necessary, often to fight mystic or supernatural threats.  

The original team was led by Dr. Strange and included the Hulk, Namor and later the Silver Surfer to fight the scientist/sorcerer Yandroth.  The roster has changed but Dr. Strange and the Hulk are mainstays.
